Valerie Dowden, APC

Valerie is a Licensed Associate Professional Counselor practicing at Discovery Counseling’s Zebulon location. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University. She has experience providing individual counseling in a nonprofit setting for individuals who have endured trauma. Valerie enjoys working with children ages 5 and up, adolescents, and adults for individual therapy.

Passionate about empowering clients, she believes in a collaborative therapeutic process tailored to each client’s unique needs. She has experience supporting individuals facing depression, anxiety, adjustment disorder, post-traumatic stress, relationship difficulties, trauma, and grief.

Valerie provides an eclectic approach to meet each client by drawing from modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Brief Solution-Focused Therapy. Valerie assists clients in identifying, evaluating, and changing maladaptive thought patterns while processing past traumatic experiences. Valerie is dedicated to helping her clients heal from traumatic experiences and reclaim their lives. She strives to establish a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients by presenting as her empathetic, genuine self.
